The Law of Attraction is a wonderful thing and it basically says that what you think about, you attract. You may be thinking that you’re thinking about positive things, but your reality is showing something quite different… Why is that?
We all think thousands upon thousands, if not millions of thoughts, every single day. Some of those thoughts tend to pop up without any conscious doing on our part – they just tend to pop up. At other times, we’re consciously thinking certain thoughts.
If your dominant focus is on what you don’t want, then you will attract situations, things or events that you do not want.
On the other hand, if your dominant thoughts are about what you do want, you will find that situations, things or events which are pleasing to you, will begin to appear.
What often happens with people is that they learn about the Law of Attraction and they begin to apply the principles of what they have learned, and after a short time they give up. They say that “It didn’t work”, because they were focusing on positive things, but they were still experiencing the negative.
What these people are doing throughout this process is focusing on the gap between their reality and what they want – they’re not focused solely on what they want. And this is the problem.
There is also a buffer of time – most things take time to manifest. If you’ve already fallen off the cliff and decide to start thinking positive thoughts, it’s not likely that you will suddenly stop mid-fall and return to the top of the cliff! Sometimes the negative stuff needs to play out first, before things can be turned around.
So once you’ve fallen off the cliff and you’re at the bottom, or even while you’re falling, this is as good a time as any to shift your thoughts. In this scenario, you may be wanting to focus on a soft landing, for example! 😉
If you don’t see things changing for the better and you’re feeling frustrated, this is a sign that you’re not quite fully focused on what you do want. This is the time to refocus on what you do want and imagine how it would feel once you have received it.
Sometimes it’s hard to refocus your thoughts when life isn’t going so great, so here are some ideas for you:
- Meditate – this is the best way to shift your negative thoughts into neutral thoughts at the very least
- Pivot your thoughts – more on this in a later post
- Gratitude – write down as many things as you can think of, that you feel grateful for, right now – feel that feeling of gratitude as you write!
There are obviously many other ways to shift your thoughts to what you do want when what you don’t want is smacking you in the face, but it can be done!
