The observer effect is a quantum physics term which explains that your thoughts and beliefs about the world are its cause. Wha…??
Most of us believe that our thoughts and beliefs are the result of what’s happening in this world. We believe that a particular person is a bully because of how they treat us or others, as one example.
But what if quantum physics was right? What if our thoughts were causing your colleague Molly to be a bully toward you at work?? Or to put things differently, what if your beliefs were preventing you from seeing anything other than Molly being a bully??
I bet that’s got ya thinking!
OK so back to Molly.
Our brains are tricky little critters and they tend to do weird stuff to ensure that what you are observing matches your thoughts and beliefs on a conscious and subconscious level. What it does is kind of like a TV producer.
So let’s say Molly’s in a reality show on TV and the producer wants to portray her as a bully. As the show is filmed, the producer will only keep footage of Molly being a bully. The bits where Molly is kind, compassionate, caring or whatever, will immediately end up on the cutting room floor, because that’s not the image of Molly that the producer wants to portray.
Our brains are a lot like this producer. It doesn’t allow you to observe or be conscious of the times when Molly has been extremely kind to you because those times end up on the “cutting room floor”, so to speak. Your brain only allows you to observe the bullying, because our brain, like the producer, wants to make sure that your “reality” matches your thoughts and beliefs.
Can you see where I’m going here??? This is freaky sh*t!! But it’s so darn powerful, and this knowledge has literally changed the way I think!
Now that you know what I’ve just told you, what if you shifted your belief to one that reflected a lovely and kind person who would do anything for anybody?
What do you think would end up on the cutting room floor if you shifted to this belief instead?
In my next post I’ll talk you through one of the very best ways you can achieve this shift. Stand by!
