I have a friend who contributes regularly to a website for women in business and that is how I came across the story I am going to talk about today.
Other contributors to this site talk about anything from fashion, to weight loss, to business (amongst many other things), and today I came across a story about domestic violence where the author (Rachel Kayrooz) talked about how she finally escaped her domestic violence situation.
What is unfortunate for Rachel, is that she had to almost lose her unborn child first. This story brought tears to my eyes. I am the mother of two beautiful daughters, and can’t imagine what it would have been like to wonder if my child was going to live or die – before they were even born! If you’re living in a domestic violence situation, then you need to read her story NOW.
If you’re in a similar situation and can’t do something about it for yourself, then you MUST protect your children and do something for them!! You might save their life in the process…

Wow, thank you for posting this. I am very humbled to know that you read my column about my experience and felt it important to share with others. In doing this, you are helping to spread awareness, thank you.
I wanted to share that 1 in 3 women globally experience domestic/sexual violence at some point in their lives. However, these statistics do not reflect our precious children who also suffer. The sooner a victim can escape and access support services (financial, counselling, housing, legal) then the better chances the children have of overcoming their exposure to the abuse and, along with their mother, feel safe again.

Rachel, I have experienced verbal and emotional abuse and know how terrible that felt. I can only try to imagine how it would feel if someone I loved felt they needed to physically abuse me and my unborn child. Terrible stuff.
So many women suffer in silence, and it is my hope that your story and others like yours will help to inspire other women in that situation to finally get out once and for all.
This is something I really feel strongly about, hence the development of this website because I do believe that a woman’s lack of self confidence plays a big part in both the type of partner they choose, and also in their ability to do what’s best for them.
Congratulations on making such a positive change to your life and that of your precious daughter’s.
