I received some horrible news today, and it really put things in perspective.
One of my coworkers – a lovely fella with a wife and kids, who I was talking to only a week ago, died today.
He was probably a little younger than me, yesterday was his son’s 12th birthday, and today they turned off his life support.
During a meeting I had with him last week, he seemed to be suffering from some mild cold symptoms – definitely nothing to be too worried about! How wrong I was! 🙁
Turns out he had picked up some sort of virus which had made it to his heart, and on Friday he was put on life support, before they turned off the machines today, when he passed away.
I think about his poor family, and I realise just how lucky I am to have my health, a roof over my head, food on the table, and my family around me. My “problems” seem pretty mediocre when you consider what his family is going through today.
This brings home just how important it is to cherish every moment, to feel grateful for everything you have, to focus on the good that’s in your life, because all too soon, all of that could be taken away.
So you could choose to be happy and appreciate all of the things that you have, or you could choose to be a miserable cow, and live a life that’s really not worth living. I don’t see the point in that…
