Healthy self esteem stems from the environment you find yourself in regularly. This could be at home, at work, at school, hanging out with your peer group or anywhere else you find yourself.
A healthy environment needs to be nurturing and positive. If you find yourself amongst people who don’t have your best interests at heart, your self esteem may suffer.
I found myself in a situation over 9 years where I lived with a man who was more concerned about his own interests and found that putting me down was one of the many great ways he found to ensure I felt as low as I possibly could so he could feel better.
I sometimes wonder how on earth I was able to build the courage to leave after such a long time, but I did do it, and while the experience wasn’t all that pleasant at the time, I did learn a lot from it.
Really think about how you are treated by those close to you. How do you treat those closest to you? Are you hurting them in your interactions?
How do you treat your children? Putting down a child on a regular basis could scar them for life. Don’t let yourself be the cause of that poor child growing up to live a life that isn’t all it could have been.
Have a great day!
