Relationship breakups can be extremely painful, especially if you have been with that person for a long time. At first it feels as though your heart will never mend from the breakup, but the good news is that it is possible to heal, no matter how painful things feel right now.
One thing I am an advocate for is allowing yourself time to grieve. Depending on how long you have been with this person, you may be grieving the loss of the person who has left your life, the loss of the dreams you had for the two of you, or both.
It doesn’t matter which it is, as long as you allow yourself time to grieve the loss in whatever way feels good to you. Crying is a great way to release, and even taking space for yourself can be healthy.
Don’t let this process drag on for too long though – if it’s been months and you’re still sitting under your dark cloud, it’s time to do something about it.
Healing a broken heart after a relationship breakup can take some time, so it’s important to be gentle on yourself. In addition to this, why not try the following:
- Think about why this person may have entered your life in the first place. Were they in your life to help you learn something? Were they in your life to give you the gift of a child? Now that they are gone, have you realised that they may not have been right for you? No matter how big or small, some people come into our lives to give us something, even if they’re only there temporarily.
- What can you do right now to take care of you? Maybe a walk in nature or a relaxing bath will help. Give yourself lots and lots of love.
- Meditate – quieten your mind, ask for guidance from your guides. You may be surprised about what you learn! When you’re meditating you are not in a state of “resistance”. The resistance state is what may be keeping you stuck, so if you’re feeling extra stressed or down about your breakup, meditation can help.
- Exercise – exercising is the best anti-depressant there is! Go for a brisk walk, go to the gym, work out at home, or even do some yoga (there are many online/downloadable programs around so you can work out from anywhere in the world). I can’t recommend this highly enough.
- Love your body by feeding it healthy foods. Maybe take a cooking class, buy a healthy cookbook, or get online and experiment with new, healthy recipes – your body will thank you!
There is so much more you can do in addition to this – even setting yourself a personal goal to work toward is a very powerful way of getting yourself out of a breakup funk, so whatever you do will be a step in the right direction!
