Wikipedia states that an affirmation is the declaration that something is true or a positive value judgement.
So what has this got to do with self esteem or confidence?
It is believed by many that positive self-affirmations are healing, positive scripts you say to yourself to counter your negative inner voice.
They can help you free yourself from the over-dependence you have on other people’s opinions, attitudes, or feelings about you and help you feel good about yourself.
What this means, is that by using affirmations, you can train your mind into thinking better of yourself.
Think about this story: A gentleman is at work when one of his colleagues tells you he saw a pink unicorn by the side of the road on his way to work. Of course you’re not going to believe him and you might start to wonder if he’s resorted to drug abuse. But then throughout the day, several other colleagues tell you the same story. While your logical mind is telling you their story can’t possibly be true, you start to doubt yourself. On your way home you hear it on the radio – a pink unicorn was seen by the side of the road. Now you’re really starting to wonder if it could possibly be true.
Have you ever heard it said that if you’re told a lie often enough, you start to believe it?
It’s the same with possitive affirmations. Tell yourself often enough that you are a worthy, valuable, intelligent person, then eventually you will start to believe it.
Once you believe your positive statements to be true, you will notice your actions will change. You will hold your head higher, you will stand straighter, you will feel more positive and the people around you will start to notice!
This can be the beginning of something beautiful!
Have a great day!
