What is Life Coaching?
When I first decided to become a Life Coach, many people asked me the question, “What’s a Life Coach?”.
Life coaching originally derived from sports coaching and is similar in some ways to counseling, although looks at a person’s issues from a completely different perspective.
Coaching is really about working with a person to work out how to get from where they are to where they want to be and providing them with the tools and strategies to get there.
A life coach will also assist you in the following ways:
1. Help you to see their situation from various perspectives
2. Help you to make decisions (but not make decisions for you!) about what action to take
3. Support you when you take action
The first thing a coach needs to do is help you to work out what it is you really want. Interestingly, very few people really know. Also having an understanding of the reasons why you want whatever it is will really help to put things in perspective.
Next the coach works with you to determine the options that are available to you.
From there, you will determine a course of action and plan how you will follow through on the action, including how you will handle obstacles that may land in your way.
Typically a coach will follow up with you to see how you are going, and further coaching sessions can be arranged if you require some more guidance.
Who can a coach help?
A coach can help people who want to:
- lose weight
- increase their fitness
- reduce stress levels in their life
- set goals
- find a career path that is suitable for them
- find direction in their life and career
- overcome obstacles at various stages of their life
- get clear on goals
- get emotional support in whatever they are planning to do
- have an ally to stand by them when making life changes
- receive guidance on the best way to handle situations
This list could go on forever. If you think life coaching might be for you, or if you’re not sure if a coach can help you, please Contact me via the online form and I will respond within 24 hours.
