How to write your coaching query
Below you will find a list of guidelines to help you with the structure of your coaching enquiry so that I can help you in the best way I can:
- Keep your coaching query to one main issue or topic – like most things in life, most problems should be tackled one step at a time. If I find there are several topics in your request, I will determine which one needs to be addressed first, either based on the first thing you mentioned, or the one that seems most urgent.
- What specific goal are you trying to achieve?
- What have you already done to help you achieve this goal?
- How did this go? What worked and what didn’t?
- Talk about what it is you want to know about moving forward with that goal.
- What obstacles are you facing? Which ones do you think you can handle? Which ones seem too hard?
- Provide other information related to your goal or issue that may help me understand your situation.
Before you decide you want to try some online coaching, here is something I will not do for you:
- I will not tell you what you should do – My job is to help you work out what you could do then decide on a course of action from there. Coaching is all about helping the client to discover the answers within themselves then assist them in implementing a course of action to help them achieve their goals. It is not about telling you what to do!
